Film Analysis:

Earnest Greene III plays along one of the most talented offensive line units in college football that is creating a pipeline of first-round draft picks to the NFL. Focusing on Greene’s individual skill set, he is an athletic offensive tackle who wins using quickness to help leverage himself in both the run game and pass protection.

In the run game, Greene shows best on zone runs where he can use his quick first step to get in front of defenders and beat them to a spot moving laterally. When he is on the backside of runs, Greene can get his body in front of the defender and seal off the backside of the play to allow the ball-carrier to cut back if necessary. Greene also shows the ability to work to the second level effectively and make contact with second-level defenders. Greene being able to do this helps create running lanes for running backs to run for big plays.

In pass protection, Greene's best asset is his initial quickness to either attempt to get depth or to quick-set a defender and try to stop their momentum quickly. When utilizing his quickness to get depth, he has a quick first step to force defenders to have to run the arc to get to the quarterback, which could allow the quarterback to step up in the pocket to evade the pressure. When trying to quickly set a defender, he can use his quickness to quickly get out to the defender and try to smother his rush quickly. This prevents the defender from getting momentum and lets Greene be in a position to dictate the rep.

Greene’s improvements as a player are needed in two main areas. First is that Green becomes a waist-bender and lunges at defenders. This makes him lose balance and body control and defenders can quickly get past him to get to the quarterback. Greene could also improve his functional strength. Greene is a willing and active run blocker but at times cannot get movement in the run game.

Overall, Greene is a prospect that NFL teams will draft because of the physical tools and athleticism that can develop into an NFL starter.
