Chris Bell Scouting Report

Chris Bell has the combination of size, strength, and run-after-catch ability to fit the role of an ideal X receiver in an NFL offense.

Draft Grade: Round 2 - Winning Starter

Strengths:

Run-After-Catch Ability: Bell is a strong receiver with a dense frame that he utilizes effectively in run-after-catch situations. He can turn quick screens and short throws into impactful gains by running through arm tackles and maintaining balance through contact. In the open field, Bell showcases a strong blend of power and elusiveness, making him difficult for defensive backs to bring down in one-on-one situations.

Strong Hands/Catch in Traffic: Bell displays strong hands and excellent concentration in contested-catch scenarios. He tracks the ball well with defenders in close proximity and consistently finishes through contact. He also utilizes his leaping ability effectively, showing the ability to elevate over defenders and win 50/50 balls at a high rate.

Versatility: Bell’s size and physical play style allow him to project naturally as a traditional X receiver, but he also has the flexibility to align at Z or move inside to the slot when needed. His football IQ and understanding of route concepts enable him to function effectively from multiple alignments, adding value to an offensive scheme.

Release Package: At the line of scrimmage, Bell shows a varied release package. He can use quick foot fire to defeat press coverage or vary his tempo to bait defensive backs into becoming overly aggressive. Bell also has the play strength to power through contact against press defenders, allowing him to access his route stem cleanly.

Concerns:

Top-End Speed: Bell frequently finds himself in contested-catch situations on vertical routes, which appears to stem from a lack of elite top-end speed.

Injury: Bell enters the draft coming off a torn ACL that sidelined him for the latter portion of the 2025 season. Medical evaluations and recovery progress will be critical in determining his draft value.
