The New York Jets are preparing to part ways with veteran starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason, according to multiple reports. New head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey prefer to start anew. Current indications are that Rodgers plans to continue playing in 2025.
Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions throughout the 2024 season. Despite occasionally struggling on a bad team, Rodgers still proved he's an above-average starting QB. There will be interest in his services.
The 2025 NFL Draft is perceived to feature a weak class of quarterback prospects. Rodgers may be the best available veteran. We've identified three potential landing spots for the future Hall of Fame QB.
Tennessee Titans
The Tennessee Titans own the No. 1 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft. Current indications are that the new GM Mike Borgonzi prefers to trade the pick to a QB-needy team while acquiring more draft capital to build a more competitive roster. Tennessee could target a better prospect like Travis Hunter or Abdul Carter via a trade-down. If that's the way forward, the Titans must replace Will Levis with a veteran quarterback.
Second-year head coach Brian Callahan is entering the 2025 campaign on the hot seat after leading the team to an NFL-worst 3-14 record. After watching Levis derail his season, Callahan will prefer to acquire a veteran quarterback he could win immediately with. Rodgers has already hinted at being interested in playing in Nashville next season.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Las Vegas Raiders are in an interesting position. They're slated to pick sixth overall in the draft. Will that be early enough to select a potential franchise quarterback like Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders?
The Raiders obviously will be replacing Aidan O'Connell and Gardner Minshew at QB this summer. They hired a veteran head coach in Pete Carroll who may not be interested in rebuilding. Carroll has already stated his preference to win right away. The front office, Tom Brady included, may not possess the patience to lose again in 2025. New GM John Spytek was present when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers acquired Brady and won a Super Bowl. Rodgers could make sense for a franchise trying to accelerate their rebuild.
Indianapolis Colts
Could the Indianapolis Colts emerge as a potential surprise suitor? Sophomore quarterback Anthony Richardson continued to struggle in 2024. Richardson has dealt with recurring injuries, and he was also momentarily benched for Joe Flacco after voluntarily pulling himself from a game because he was tired. It didn't go over well in the Colts’ locker room.
General manager Chris Ballard and head coach Shane Steichen were fortunate to survive a disappointing 2024 season. Owner Jim Irsay is unlikely to exercise the same patience if 2025 goes haywire too. Is Richardson the type of quarterback and leader Ballard and Steichen want to tie their job security to? The Colts have a roster capable of competing for the AFC South title with improved quarterback play. Rodgers would immediately elevate their short-term aspirations.
