Las Vegas Raiders superstar wide receiver Davante Adams has informed the organization that he prefers to be traded, according to multiple reports. Adams did not play in Sunday's victory over the Cleveland Browns. You begin to wonder if he's played his final snap in Vegas.
The Raiders are looking for a second-round selection and additional compensation in exchange for Adams. Adams turns 32 in December and his contract needs reworking. His scheduled cap charges in 2025 and 2026 are more than $44 million, so the inheriting franchise must have a plan to redo his deal.
Adams could technically be considered a one-year rental. Postseason contenders should be interested. We've identified four potential landing spots.
NEW YORK JETS
The New York Jets will be the franchise most connected to an Adams trade and it's easy to understand why. General manager Joe Douglas should possess a heavy interest in reuniting Adams with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Jets are in win-now mode and there's significant pressure on this regime to deliver results this season.
Adams and Rodgers played eight seasons together (2014-21) in Green Bay and enjoyed resounding success. Adams recorded 669 receptions for 8,121 receiving yards and 73 touchdowns throughout that time frame. He was a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro. Rodgers won three MVPs during that tenure.
Garrett Wilson is a legitimate No. 1 receiver, but the Jets clearly need pass-catching depth behind him. Sunday's lowly defeat to the Denver Broncos proved the Jets need more offense.
WASHINGTON COMMANDERS
Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is spearheading an offensive explosion. The Commanders are averaging 33.6 points per contest over the previous three weeks, all victories. They followed up a 38-33 win over the Cincinnati Bengals in primetime with a 42-14 drubbing over the Arizona Cardinals.
The 3-1 Commanders are playing like legitimate postseason contenders and that should make general manager Adam Peters aggressive at the deadline. Luke McCaffrey and Ben Sinnott are building blocks, but Daniels could use another veteran weapon behind Terry McLaurin. Peters should take advantage of Daniels' form and affordable rookie contract. The Commanders have more than $25 million in cap space and are one of few franchises that could afford Adams without making too many sacrifices.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
The New Orleans Saints have been mentioned as a preferred destination for Adams. When he was traded from the Packers to the Raiders, it was to reunite with his college quarterback Derek Carr. That partnership only lasted a season as the Raiders released Carr from his contract, leaving them in quarterback limbo, inciting the souring of their relationship with the star wideout.
Adams would allegedly welcome another opportunity to catch passes from Carr. It could work out better this time with the 2-2 Saints fielding an explosive offense. Offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has revived Carr while overseeing a unit averaging a league-leading 31.8 points per game.
BALTIMORE RAVENS
The Baltimore Ravens have won two straight contests after a lackluster 0-2 start. Sunday's dominant 35-10 victory over fellow AFC contenders Buffalo Bills proved the Ravens rightfully possess AFC Championship Game aspirations for the second straight season. Getting over the hump is a vocal point for a franchise that paired Lamar Jackson with Derrick Henry in the offseason.
Furthermore, the Kansas City Chiefs would be realistic suitors for Adams if they weren't in the AFC West. The Bills may have interest too. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta should be conscious of those connections while attempting to one-up the two biggest roadblocks standing between his franchise and their lofty goals this season.
