Roman Wilson's 3 Best NFL Draft Fits

Michigan Wolverines wide receiver Roman Wilson was among the standout winners at last week's Senior Bowl. Wilson consistently showcased an innate ability to separate from coverage and make plays on the ball. Short-area quickness was on display. Opposing cornerbacks struggled to keep pace with Wilson, who often put them in a blender while running well-executed routes.

The 2024 NFL Draft features a deep class of game-changing receiver prospects. Don't forget about Wilson, who has joined the top-64 conversation after thriving in the Senior Bowl's competitive environment. The Honolulu, Hawaii native improved his pre-draft stock in Mobile. With that in mind, we've identified three ideal team fits for Wilson.

LOS ANGELES CHARGERS

New Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has to consider it, right? Harbaugh decided to jump back into the pro game after winning a National Championship with Michigan. Wilson took a significant step forward in Harbaugh's offense this past season, converting 25% of his receptions (48) into touchdowns (12). Justin Herbert is a franchise quarterback and I believe the Chargers will look to upgrade the pass-catchers around him.

Mike Williams is recovering from a season-ending torn ACL and Quentin Johnston failed to meet expectations as a rookie. If the Chargers don't draft a receiver with the No. 5 overall selection, I expect them to target one in the second or third round. Harbaugh would appreciate an opportunity to continue coaching Wilson.

DENVER BRONCOS

The Broncos are expected to release quarterback Russell Wilson this offseason. Such a move would immediately thrust them into the market for a new starting signal-caller. Given the financial penalties that releasing Wilson would initiate ($85 million in dead money spread out over two seasons), the Broncos must draft their next starting quarterback to take advantage of the cost-controlled rookie contract.

Michigan's J.J. McCarthy will be among the potential handful of targets with the 12th overall selection. If McCarthy is the pick, Broncos head coach Sean Payton will be tasked with developing the young signal-caller into a face-of-the-franchise talent. Drafting Wilson, McCarthy's go-to target this past season, could help speed up the process. Payton has always enjoyed terrific success with slot receivers in his offense, and a need could be emerging at that position with Jerry Jeudy's long-term future in doubt.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

Saints head coach Dennis Allen is entering a make-or-break campaign in 2024. Missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons has Allen sitting firmly on the hot seat—many were surprised the Saints decided to retain Allen's coaching services this offseason.

Improving an offense that didn't hit its stride until December takes top priority for Allen and general manager Mickey Loomis this summer. San Francisco 49ers passing game coordinator Klint Kubiak is expected to become Allen's new offensive coordinator. Kubiak's appointment is all about getting more out of Derek Carr and improving the passing game.

With Michael Thomas set to reach unrestricted free agency, a hole is emerging opposite Chris Olave. After working with Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk in the Bay Area, Kubiak will want a receiver who can uncover quickly as he prepares to install his offense. Wilson checks that box.
