Film Analysis:

Sedrick Van Pran enters the NFL after a highly decorated career—winning multiple national championships, being named to numerous All-American teams, starting in more than 40 career games, and being named team captain. Throughout his career, Van Pran was a key piece to the success of this Georgia team, using his natural athletic ability, natural instincts for the center position, and strength to be an impactful blocker in both the run game and in pass pro.

In the run game, the first noticeable elite trait is his athleticism. After he snaps, Van Pran does a great job with first-step quickness, whether that's getting to help on a double team, pulling to be a lead blocker, or climbing to the second level. Van Pran not only attempts to get to the defender but often puts himself in great situations to sustain blocks and execute his responsibility at a high level. Van Pran’s range as a blocker is impressive and allows him to make difficult blocks consistently. Van Pran should be viewed as a player who has the athleticism and strength who can play in both power/gap or zone schemes.

In pass pro, Van Pran does a great job of working both A-gaps, preventing penetration from defenders, and helping both guard positions out. He also shows to be a high-IQ player in that he can effectively and efficiently pass off twists and stunts. Van Pran has a strong punch against defenders crossing his face; he can slow them down and stop penetration.

There are two areas of improvement for Van Pran. The first is in the run game. Van Pran's aggressiveness can hurt him in that in his effort to make contact with defenders he will become too over-extended and be unbalanced in his approach which will allow for missed blocks. The other area is when defenders are lined up head-up over the center and work through, he gives up ground and has to work to reset the line of scrimmage at times in both pass pro and the run game.

Overall, Van Pran checks all of the boxes to be a high-quality starter for an NFL team as a rookie.
