Film Analysis:
Mitchell Evans is a big-bodied tight end who can outpower and out-leverage smaller defenders inside the intermediate areas of an offense. Evans primarily aligns attached to the line of scrimmage and can quickly get out of his stance and into his route stem. Although Evans' athletic profile is limited, his high-level football IQ and understanding of coverages allow him to find open grass consistently. Evans is a natural hands-catcher who consistently hauls in passes away from his frame at a variety of depths
On free releases and in the open field, Evans can accelerate and run past less athletic linebackers on crossers, showcasing just enough acceleration to separate from defenders with average athletic profiles.
As a blocker, Evans is more advanced in the run than assisting in pass pro at this point in his career. In the run game, he consistently plays with good leverage and can seal and relocate outside linebackers effectively. In pass pro, lack of technique shows in that he will often sink his head, leading to whiffs on opposing rushers. This stems from Evans trying to outpower pass rushers with upper-body strength instead of sliding his feet, which results in him losing his balance
As an NFL prospect, Evans has concerns about how many different ways he contributes as a versatile TE as he has athletic limitations that slow down his ability to separate. He projects best in an offense that utilizes traditional physical in-line tight ends who have to contribute as a run blocker and who can make occasional catches in the short to intermediate portions of the field.
