Will Levis 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • His great-grandfather and uncle played football at the collegiate level
  • Elected as a team captain in his first year on the team

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Pro-style offense, mixture of zone read and west coast concepts
  • 2022 projected role: Starting QB

Pros: Will Levis fits the prototypical mold for quarterbacks. He has a big and strong frame to shrug off nearby defenders. His arm talent is evident—the ball pops off his arm with little effort. He’s able to complete far-hash-to-sideline throws with proper zip and velocity. Levis’ mobility and frame expand the offense’s play-calling. He can effectively run QB power, sweeps, and counters. His mobility is a real asset in the red zone, forcing defenses to play 11 on 11. He operates a pro-style system that is based on timing and rhythm. His experience under center with play-action drops and boots bodes well for his NFL transition. His short-area accuracy is good and consistent. His throwing mechanics are clean and smooth.

Cons: Will Levis has the tools to rise up draft boards this season, but lacks refinement. His mechanics can disappear when he is pressured. He must improve pocket navigation and presence. He will bail to his right instead of stepping into a clean space in the pocket. He creates pressure on his own and hurts his OL at times. He operates as a hash-to-sideline quarterback, not reading the entire field. Anticipation on his throws is a real concern. He is a “see it, throw it” quarterback—if the receiver is not open, Levis will not deliver the ball. His downfield accuracy and ball placement need improving. He attempts to aim his passes instead of delivering accurate and catchable balls.
