Tayvion Robinson 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Earned First-Team All-Tidewater accolades in both football and basketball as a junior
  • Accounted for 1,635 total yards with 21 touchdowns at quarterback, running back, and wide receiver
  • Four-star recruit

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Pro-style offense, mixture of zone read and West Coast concepts
  • 2022 projected role: Starting slot receiver

Pros: The Virginia Tech transfer will step into the slot receiver role vacated by Wan’Dale Robinson. Tayvion Robinson is a versatile, dynamic, and fun offensive playmaker. You want to get the football in his hands by any means, whether by manufactured or traditional touches. An elusive player in space, he can force missed tackles after the catch. Almost exclusively a slot receiver last season, Robinson used his free access well to find open areas on the field. I like how he tempos his routes before using suddenness at the top of his stem to separate. He has good spatial awareness to find soft spots against zone coverage. He’s impressive at tracking the ball while in flight. Robinson’s body control allows him to adjust to passes depending on their trajectory. He has a keen sense of positioning on the field and where the ball is in the air with strong and reliable hands to snatch the football away from his body. Despite being shorter than 6 feet tall, Robinson plays bigger than his size. He offers special teams value as a punt returner.

Cons: Tayvion Robinson has the physical attributes to play more on the perimeter. He has limited snaps against press alignment. He has been consistent with his production hovering around 400-600 receiving yards. Due to mediocre quarterback play, Robinson has yet to have a breakout campaign. His talent is obvious. He runs good routes for the variety that he is tasked with, but expanding the tree will benefit him going forward.
