Richard Gouraige 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report
- Two-year starter
- Scheme tendencies: Zone/Gap
- 2022 projected role: Starting LT
Pros: Richard Gouriage is a big-bodied offensive tackle that is a plus-level run blocker. At the snap, Gouriage does a good job of coming out of his stance and generating power to engage with defenders. He does a good job engaging with defenders and generating some movement at the line of scrimmage and displaces defenders. As a zone blocker, Gouraige does a good job beating defenders to a spot so he can cut them off. He also shows enough athleticism to be able to make it to some second-level defenders. Overall, Gouriage is a solid run blocker, which should serve him well in this new Billy Napier run-heavy offense.
Cons: There are plenty of things to like about Richard Gouriage, but one thing he needs to improve is his athleticism. An improvement in athleticism can help him improve in all facets of his game. It appears that in pass protection Gouraige struggles with speed rushers. It appears that Gouriage’s lack of overall athleticism prevents him from being a rangy player that can beat rushers to a point and block them out in space. He also needs to improve on his ability to redirect. There are times that defenders’ counter moves give him trouble because he struggles to react. If Gouriage can manage to improve his pass protection, he will see his draft stock rise tremendously.
