Rashad Torrence II NFL Draft Scouting Report
SAF, Florida Gators
Rashad Torrence II is a versatile defensive back that has played multiple positions but found his most success as a deep safety in 2022. Torrence finished the 2022 season leading the team in tackles (84), multiple pass break-ups, and a forced fumble.Â
From the deep safety position, Torrence does a good job of play recognition, determining if it’s run and pass and tracking to the ball. On run plays, Torrence has a quick trigger downhill and has shown to be able to effectively close to the ball carrier and make the tackle. Torrence does not have a dense frame but he is a willing tackler that will strike ball carriers with physical intent. Torrence does a good job of playing sideline-to-sideline in pass courage. Florida often places Torrence in one-high safety situations where he has the ability to roam the deeper portions of the field and make plays. Torrence does a good job tracking the ball and being able to make a play to disrupt the pass from being completed. Torrence’s skills allow him to play in both one-high and two-high safety schemes.Â
Torrence’s concerns as a player start with his size. He has a physical temperament as a player that consistently looks to insert himself on run plays but his slight frame can be concerning. On occasion, Torrence will strike a ball carrier but due to his lack of mass, fails to bring him to the ground. The other concern for Torrence is his ability to play man-to-man. There appears to be some hip tightness and lack of explosiveness that prevent Torrence from being an effective man-to-man player. When Torrence is playing from depth, he does a good job of triggering downhill and driving on underneath routes. But when receivers run routes that force him to flip his hips and transition, that process is segmented and receivers can create distance to become open. There are also injury concerns for Torrence.
Overall, Torrence has shown to be a highly-productive tackler who has a high motor and effort that should make an impact against the run in the NFL.
