Nesta Jade Silvera 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

  • Consensus four-star recruit
  • Selected to 2018 U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio

  • Scheme tendencies: Multiple, mixture of 4-3 and 4-2-5
  • 2022 projected role: Starting defensive tackle

Pros: An ideal candidate to play as a 3-technique attacking-style defensive tackle, Nesta Jade Silvera plays with good strength at the point of attack. He delivers enough pop in his hands to shock opposing blockers. Silvera has functional quickness/juice at the snap to shoot gaps and create quick backfield penetration. He showcases functional athleticism in the twist and stunt games as the looper. Also, Silvera can change directions and retrace his steps back to the football without much-labored movement.

Cons: Silvera plays with a high pad level, causing him to surrender natural leverage. I would not feel comfortable reducing him too far inside and forcing him to deal with double teams or duo blocks. As a pass rusher, he has inconsistent hand usage to deconstruct blocks and soften edges. Silvera does not rush with a plan to win at the top of his rush. He is too reliant on winning with power and gap shooting. He lacks the lower-body and hip rotation to dip/bend around the edges.
