Max Duggan 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report
- Second-Team Academic All-Big 12
- Scheme tendencies: Spread
- 2022 projected role: Starting QB
Pros: Max Duggan has surprising athleticism that helps him in many parts of his game. This TCU offense has many elements where Duggan has the opportunity to run the ball and he does this effectively. On called QB runs, Duggan has to be accounted for because he can gain significant yardage and shift field position. As a passer, Duggan uses this athleticism to extend plays. On plays where protection breaks down, Duggan does a good job of escaping the pocket and extending the time for his receivers to get open and make a play down the field. Duggan’s athleticism is another element added to this TCU offense and is a big part of why TCU is hard to defend.
Cons: The parts of Max Duggan’s game that need improvement involve his accuracy as a passer. Duggan appears to see the field well and understands the elements of the offense, but he can be inconsistent in delivering the ball to the receiver. On occasion, Duggan will miss high on a receiver that was open in a zone window. Also, the play design of this TCU offense gives receivers the opportunity to run with the ball after the catch, but Duggan at times will put the ball in difficult places for them to keep their momentum. Watching this offense, it becomes clear the importance of ball placement and how Duggan needs to improve this part of his game. Usually, accuracy is tied to footwork and mechanics, so if Duggan focuses to improve those elements of his game, he can improve his accuracy.
