Prospect Summary
Kei’Trel Clark NFL Draft Scouting Report
CB, Louisville Cardinals
Kei’Trel Clark is a cornerback for the Louisville football team. Clark had a 2021 season in which he earned second-team All-ACC accolades, tallying three interceptions and nine PBUs—showcasing himself as a highly-productive defender on the ball. In 2022, Clark took on a new role for the Cardinals’ defense as he played more of the nickel position, which is more suited for his limited frame.Â
In the nickel position, Clark showcases as a good run defender and is an effective tackler and blitzer. Playing the pass from the nickel position, Clark appears to still be getting adjusted to the spacing and how to be technically sound against receivers that have two-way options on every play. On tape, Clark showcases as a high-instinct defensive back that is always around the football.Â
Evaluating Clark as an outside cornerback, he shows the versatility to play both press and off-man coverage. In press, Clark uses a mirror technique where he doesn’t always put hands on the receiver but stays in front of them using his quick feet to disrupt them. In off coverage, Clark is a risk taker. Clark often allows receivers to reduce his cushion because he is playing the underneath route in hopes of jumping a pass and making a play on the ball. This technique gets Clark in trouble at times because he will bite on double moves or faster receivers can gain a step on him down the field, forcing Clark to have to grab the receiver as they are running past him.Â
Overall, Clark is a highly productive defensive back that is versatile when it comes to where he can align. Clark’s limited size will be a question for NFL teams as he could be a mismatch issue against bigger receivers, but the film shows a competitive defensive back that has uncoachable instincts and ball prediction.Â
