Prospect Summary
Jordan Mims NFL Draft Scouting Report
RB, Fresno State Bulldogs
Fresno State’s Jordan Mims had to wait his turn to be the featured back, but once he got his opportunity, he sure made the most of it. Mims had an outstanding season as a senior as he rushed for 1,161 yards and 16 touchdowns—finally operating as the full-time starter as Ronnie Rivers departed to the NFL.
Mims is an undersized running back who possesses above-average agility and elusiveness. He is a north/south runner who displays good short-area burst through the line of scrimmage and into the second level. He has above-average vision and he does really well to find cut-back lanes and use his burst ability to hit the hole for big gains. Mims has good overall speed and acceleration and can defeat angles in the open field. If he is given room, he has the speed and burst to break long runs and take it the distance.
As a runner, Mims needs to improve his patience and run discipline. He is too often quick to bounce the run outside, relying on his speed and quickness to make a play rather than waiting for his blockers to get to their spots and let the play develop. Furthermore, as an undersized back, Mims lacks the power and strength to move the pile in short-yardage situations and isn’t much of a threat to break tackles. He does show well as a receiver out of the backfield flashing soft hands and an ability to run routes. He projects as a third-down back at the next level who offers kick-return ability as well.
