Jayden Daniels 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

  • Arizona State transfer

  • Scheme tendencies: Multiple
  • 2022 projected role: Starting QB

Pros: Jayden Daniels’ best plays as a player come from his ability to run the football. Daniels appears to be a smooth and fluid runner that can make people miss in the open field and pick up significant yardage. Daniels plays behind an offensive line that is inconsistent and gives up pressure, but to help mitigate that, Daniels will escape the pocket and pick up yards with his legs. Daniels has the speed to quickly pick up 20-plus yards with his legs and change field position. Whether it’s called QB design runs or Daniels scrambling, his athleticism requires the defense to pay close attention to him and in some cases use a spy defender to stay and account for him as a runner.

Cons: Jayden Daniels shows on film that there are many elements of his game that he needs to improve on as a passer.  First is his willingness to throw the ball. Whether it’s not seeing the field clearly or not wanting to throw an interception, Daniels appears to be reluctant at times to throw the ball. There are multiple occasions where receivers are running wide open and Daniels fails to pull the trigger on the throw. Also, there appear to be some concerns with his accuracy as a passer—Daniels doesn’t always look comfortable as a passer and will aim the football instead of throwing it. Daniels has the athleticism to change games with his legs, but in order for him to take the next step as a QB prospect he has to work on his traits as a passer.
