Prospect Summary

Jared Harrison-Hunte 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Missed time in 2020 with an elbow injury
  • Two-way high school player who also logged time as a tight end
  • Committed to Miami over offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and others

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Multiple front defense with man-heavy tendencies
  • 2022 projected role: Starting DT

Pros: The athletic profile here is hard not to be excited about. Jared Harrison-Hunte’s flashes as a penetration player who wins on the plus side of the line of scrimmage can create a lot of chaos and derail plays before they’re even started. I enjoy his first step out of the blocks, but yet, there are also some flashes of gap control at the point of attack that I wasn’t necessarily expecting—which illustrates the potential for a more well-rounded player. Despite the missed time and struggles with injury, Harrison-Hunte has continued to be a productive player. The question becomes, how productive could he be with a consistent season of play? This resume requires some projection but the projection is one that could boom if everything comes together. He’s built compact and has little issue playing under the hands of offensive linemen.

Cons: This marks the second year we’ll be looking for Jared Harrison-Hunte to put it all together. The flashes of elite athleticism inside offer hope that those skills can be fully harnessed and unleashed with consistency—and if they can, he’ll be a coveted player. But the flashes are currently too intermittent and I’d love to see him be given a more robust workload—he has yet to take 500 or more snaps in a single season. His power is effective in linear situations but he is still a bit undersized as well. Harrison-Hunte does not carry any bad weight on his frame, so I’ll be interested to see if he looks to add mass in order to boost his anchor in the middle in his effort to become a more scheme-diverse player or if he will lean into his quickness and continue to build out his penetration-attack skill set.
