Jaray Jenkins NFL Draft Scouting Report
WR, LSU Tigers
Over his career, Jaray Jenkins has carved out a role as a reliable pass-catcher who simply has a knack for making a play in the biggest moment in the game. Along with his play, Jenkins has become a locker-room leader that leads by example.Â
Jenkins has played multiple positions and served multiple roles from game to game, being everywhere from the first option in game plans to the fourth option while being prepared to make a play. Jenkins finished his career at LSU with career totals of 89 receptions for 1,390 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jenkins profiles as a savvy possession receiver that doesn’t have one physically dominant trait, but has an in-depth understanding of how to make plays.Â
At the snap, Jenkins has multiple releases and can win with rapid foot-fire or with strength to run through man coverage. While in his route, Jenkins runs with good tempo and with an understanding of how switching up the speed of routes can help him uncover from defenders. Against zone coverage, Jenkins understands how to sit down in vacant spots and make himself open for the quarterbacks. In man coverage, Jenkins shows to have good body control, which allows him to stop in an instant to snap off underneath routes or slow down to make back-shoulder catches.Â
Jenkins has consistently shown the ability to make a play when a big play is needed. And while there aren’t any elite physical traits, he is the type of player that will consistently make plays and be a net positive overall for an NFL team.
Jenkins’ concerns as a player come from what appears to be a lack of elite speed. On vertical routes, Jenkins is inconsistent in creating separation. Jenkins should be viewed as a player that can work short and intermediate routes and be utilized to get those timely first downs. Although Jenkins does not have the vertical speed to threaten defenses, he has a unique role that he can carve out on an NFL team.
