Prospect Summary
Grayson McCall 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report
Background:Â
- Sun Belt Conference POY in 2021
- First-Team All-Sun-Belt
- Lettered in basketball in high school
System:Â
- Scheme tendencies: Triple-option/RPO hybrid
- 2022 projected role: Starting QB
Pros: Grayson McCall plays and leads with a gritty and tough mentality. He showcases enough zip in the short passing game. His frame and dual-threat ability can expand the offensive playbook. He’s capable of working off the read option, RPO, and power run game. Also, his mobility affords the opportunity to create second-reaction opportunities and off-script plays. He has 53 total passing touchdowns over two seasons and protects the football, with only six interceptions in that span.Â
Cons: Grayson McCall operated an RPO/Triple-option hybrid offense, which makes his transition to the NFL difficult—he had a limited amount of traditional dropbacks. His film has plenty of quick passes off three-step dropbacks. He’s inconsistent with his ball placement and accuracy. McCall’s offense created advantageous opportunities for him. His arm strength is average at best, despite his short-area zip. He had far too many predetermined reads and must show improvement in reading defenses post-snap.
