Deantre Prince 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

  •   Four-star prospect

  • Scheme tendencies: Both zone and man
  • 2022 projected role: Starting CB

Pros: Deantre Prince showcases his best attributes when he is playing in a zone defense. Prince does a good job playing through the defender to the quarterback to put himself in position to make a play on the ball. Price has good instincts and keeps himself with a proper cushion to the receiver so that he can always be in phase to make a play. Prince shows to have good instincts in zone coverage and does a good job diagnosing different route concepts. Throughout his career, Prince has played both man and zone but shows best as a zone defender. At the next level, Prince would be best served as a player who can play in any variation of Cover 2 or Cover 3.

Cons: Most of Deantre Prince’s negative plays appear to come from his lack of overall athleticism. On vertical routes, there are multiple times when receivers get on top of Prince and create separation. Prince has smooth hip transitions to turn and run vertically, it just appears that he doesn’t have the top speed to stay step for step with faster receivers. Prince also needs to improve his reactionary athleticism. On occasion, Prince allows receivers to create separation on in-breaking routes where it requires him to sink his hips and drive out of the break. Overall, Prince improving his speed could help him become a more versatile defender. As of now, he is better in zone coverage where there is a chance he can receive some type of help.
