Cameron Brown 2023 NFL Draft Scouting Report

Background:

  • Suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in 2020 after two games
  • Suffered a season-ending leg injury in 2018 after five games
  • Played wide receiver and cornerback in high school

System:

  • Scheme tendencies: Blended coverages
  • 2022 projected role: Starting CB

Pros: Cameron Brown illustrates comfort both in press coverage and in off-man. He is more than willing to crowd receivers at the line of scrimmage and disrupt the timing of the route from the outset. He’s also comfortable playing with initial cushion, feeling the stem, and working to cap the break. Brown demonstrates good short-area quickness that combined with his length makes him effective at driving downhill on routes. While there is inconsistency, there are flashes of physicality and a willingness to help in run support and tackle. Brown features a well-proportioned frame with good length and a sturdy build that should meet desired size thresholds for an outside corner. He should be an attractive option for teams that play heavy zone coverages.

Cons: Cameron Brown’s season-ending injuries in 2018 and 2020 are concerning. While he isn’t the tallest corner, he is high-hipped and his transitions can be leggy. He battles through some tightness in his hips when changing directions, which leads to some segmentation. His feet can be loud and antsy, leading to some wasted movement at the snap. In recent years, Ohio State has fallen victim to communication breakdowns and busts in the secondary and Brown has fallen in line. Brown isn’t overly eager to tackle and play off contact and it often appears that he is satisfied to let the action come to him. His long speed only appears to be modest and his ball production has been underwhelming to this point in his career.
