PROS: Memphis frequently left him on an island and his man coverage skills shined. He’s highly disruptive in press coverage, operating from a balanced base and he does well to crowd the release and ruin the timing of the route. He’s a sticky pattern-matcher and he has the speed to carry routes down the field and stay connected. Quick feet, loose hips and good long speed. Ball skills are a strength that popped more earlier in his career before opposing quarterbacks learned to stop targeting his man. Does well to leverage routes and he doesn’t easily get stacked or concede leverage. Embraces the physical components of the position and he illustrates good functional strength in the contact window, at the top of routes and at the catch point. Love his temperament for taking on blocks and how he competes to shed. Adequate tackler that will make the run defense better.
CONS: While he didn’t play as much off-man coverage in 2019 as he did earlier in his career, Carter was too generous with the cushion he allowed and it led to some easy completions against his coverage. Has a tendency to get grabby down the field and draw flags. Suffered an undisclosed lower leg injury that ended his 2019 season - was seen in crutches and walking boot throughout December.
