PROS: Best moments come playing forward, slipping blocks, taking on blocks and attacking downhill. Excellent hitting power and contact balance. Needs to transition to weakside linebacker in the NFL and he already has experience playing in the box. Explosive straight line burst and long speed. Plays with tremendous hustle and urgency. Has the upside to handle tight ends and running backs in man coverage. Known for his leadership and football character. Already experienced playing multiple phases of special teams. Became a more confident playmaker each season in college.

CONS: Tight hips present restrictions serving as a traditional safety but play him at WILL linebacker and ease the concern - he has the frame and physicality to hold his own in  a pursuit-style role. Key and diagnose skills are only average and he’s more of a see and chase guy. Needs to develop his footwork to clean up false steps. Will need to improve his ability to mirror ball carriers and leverage gaps on the second level.

    BEST TRAIT - Versatility

    WORST TRAIT - Flexibility

    RED FLAGS - None

Clemson’s Tanner Muse enters the NFL with 59 games of experience and 39 starts in college where he primarily played safety. With that said, his role in Brent Venables defense showcased his versatility and frequently played him in the box where I believe his best fit is at the next level. Muse’s urgency, speed, size and physicality are best utilized as a weakside linebacker in a 4-3 defense in a pursuit style role. His experience at safety will serve him well in coverage where he should hold his own in the NFL. Muse does have to develop and adjust to life as a full-time linebacker but his proven special teams ability should give him the time needed to transition and excel. At a minimum, Muse should be a quality special teamer and sub package defender but he has the upside to start by year 2/3 as a 4-3 WILL.
