Pros: Monty aligns at ILB for Georgia's defense. He is a good athlete with good lateral agility when getting to trash and closing to the football. In the passing game he gets good depth and demonstrates the ability to open his hips and get good depth in his drops. He is good in man coverage underneath and has good quickness to stay with RBs. He demonstrates very good explosion in the 5-10 yard range as an inside rusher. In the run game he is good. His good instincts to locate the football. He has good pop in his hips and hands. Although he lacks great length he can disengage and defeat blocks with speed to get to the football. He projects as an excellent special teams player if necessary.
Cons: He lacks ideal height and length for the position. As a result he's likely best suited to play covered up and in an even front scheme. Specifically as a stacked Linebacker. Has instances of processing for a second before he pulls the trigger, particularly in mis directional situations. He has instances of being slow to adjust to motion, which needs to be researched more as the process proceeds.
