PROS: Hybrid linebacker who the Boilermakers have used all over the field, so he unquestionably has the mental aptitude to handle an NFL playbook. Read and react defender from the second level who flows naturally into the point of attack. Had a big breakout season in 2017 as a pass rusher, logging 7.0 sacks after not tallying any as a rFreshman in 12 games. A high motor defender, Bailey can be viewed chasing down plays from the back side; will scrape with great hustle or turn and run down the field in an effort to get in on the play.
CONS: Markus Bailey lacks ideal physical traits, making it difficult to project a full-time home going forward. He is missing the needed length and hand power to be an effective run defender with consistency, will get pushed around by tight ends in blocking situations. Despite versatility and usage variety, lacks a winning formula at any level of the defense. Has not shown skill in shedding offensive linemen on the second level to play consistently as a pursuit linebacker.
