PROS: Lavert Hill possesses strong footwork at the line of scrimmage, regularly aligned in the face of opposing receivers and does well to stay square and patient until receiver declares release up the field. Will hinge hard and with quickness to pivot and open into the trail position, where speed presents an opportunity to stay tight on the hip. Has active hands in man coverage but isn’t grabby in doing so. Trusts keys with back to the ball to react to the eyes of receiver and flip back to find the ball late. Showcases good timing when having to extend and elevate for the football at the catch point as well. Has aggressive press technique and functional strength to get under bigger receivers.
CONS: Size is something that can turn off some teams unless he’s able to add some bulk (listed at 5’11, 177 lbs). Has made some business decisions in the alley against bigger runners, opting not to challenge ball carriers head up and sidestepping collisions. Lack of length can be targeted on the boundary against size receivers and well thrown back shoulder fades in tight man coverage. Is a one-year starter entering this college season, so will need to solidify strong tape from last season with a repeat performance in 2018.
