PROS: Lightning in a bottle. Has blazing speed and rare acceleration. There aren’t many foot races he can’t win. Dynamic in space and found tremendous production working off-tackle. Slippery and quick. Smaller frame and he doesn’t offer much surface area for defenders to get their hands on him. Willing pass blocker despite being undersized. Logged seven 100 yard rushing games as a redshirt freshman including against Notre Dame, Clemson, Kentucky and Mississippi State. Demonstrated more and more comfort in wide zone runs as 2019 progressed.
CONS: Power components are missing. Moving piles and breaking tackles because of physicality aren’t part of his game at this point. Gets rocked in pass protection despite giving good effort - best chance for him to take away rushers is to chop them down with a cut block. Struggled with vision in 2019 and the timing components of the zone rushing attack were very much a work in progress. Consequently, Hawkins frequently ran into the back of blockers and cut into tacklers. Only caught four passes in 2019 and that should be a big part of his game moving forward but he must prove it.
