PROS: Exceptional size and length for a cornerback. When he gets his hands on receivers who aren't creative off the line of scrimmage, can really stymie their releases. Seems to have solid long speed for a big corner, can open up his stride and run with receivers vertically. Mostly utilized in man coverage at Mississippi State, which NFL teams will like.
Does not back down physically from receivers, either as a blocker or in routes. Actively involved in the run game when he needs to be, shows the desire to come downhill and turn runs back inside or make stops. Good, strong tackler. Not afraid to stick his face in the fan.
Ball skills are there in flashes. Has not made a ton of plays on the ball, but his length and physicality are bothersome at the catch point. Able to contest windows that not many corners can because of his physical tools. Has shown the ability to compete for the football in the air, doesn't get lost on underthrown balls.
CONS: Currently pretty messy in press coverage. Gets over-anxious and opens early. Is easily beaten off the line of scrimmage by savvy receivers who create separation early in the pattern. Leggy in his movements and gets maneuvered off-balance too easily. Mirror-and-match ability might be limited at next level. Lateral quickness is average.
Closing speed from off coverage isn't ideal. Must be used in press, but doesn't get his hands on receivers often enough. Lot of soft press at Mississippi State, and didn't jam receivers often enough for my liking. Good long speed for a big corner, but I don't think he's going to run 4.4.
Ball skills are a big question mark, despite the flashes. Most of his career plays on the ball have come on grossly underthrown passes. Just six passes defensed and three career interceptions in three seasons (36 games) at Mississippi State, and instincts seem to be limited in zone or off coverage. Only started seven games out of 36 in his career, part of a deep rotation of defensive backs for Mississippi State, but not used to playing a full game as a result.
