PROS: Massive man that plays with a mean streak. Has all the size and length needed for the position with an impressive amount of mobility for his frame. Fairly polished with his hand usage in terms of techniques. His hand strikes and his punch is well-timed, properly placed and violent. If he gets the clamps set it’s game over for his opponent. Does well to keep opponents at the end of his reach. Timing in the run game is excellent in terms of working to the second level and reaching his landmarks. He’s a road grader in the run game that creates plenty of movement. Generally does well to reach his set points in pass protection and set roadblocks up the arc. Anchor is stout and no pass rusher is going through him.
CONS: Will occasionally duck his head on contact which leads to waist bending. From time to time his feet will deaden in pass protection when the rusher gets to a half man relationship, opening the door for them to work around his outside hip. Has some tendencies to lean on opponents. Chase Young gave him all he could handle and challenged him in ways the rest of his opponents could not. Young found ways to use his feet and hands to draw Carman out of his sets, soften rush angles and run circles around him.
