PROS: Stocky and square frame surrenders little leverage. Builds a great base in pass protection. Jump set is particularly effective, which helps mitigate issues of bending at the waist. Footwork in pass protection is good if occasionally undisciplined; hand usage, strength, and aggressiveness really impress. Can win control of rep early with well-located blows, and has the hip mobility and foot speed to maintain block over long duration of time. Does well to maintain/use half-man relationship in pass protection to recover from initial rush moves, steering defender beyond QB's set point. Smart defender who understands what rushers are trying to do to him and can counter.
Excellent puller with great rhythm and vision; reads defenders well and understands how to best displace them to generate a rushing lane. Understanding of leverage also shows up in zone blocking assignments, though his ability to reach is limited by average foot speed and more linear style of play.
CONS: Athletic profile is average. Will lose to quickness in pass protection if exposed to two-way goes. Guilty of playing over-aggressively and launching strikes without first building his base, making him susceptible to sidesteps in the first and second level alike. Angles to the second level are hit or miss on zone flow, as he's limited by his lateral agility. Length is below-average, leaving him susceptible to the forklift and long arm as well--does well to reset anchor accordingly. Limited to power concepts in the NFL.
