Wide receiver Austin Watkins transferred to UAB from the JUCO ranks and became a big-play threat for the Blazers’ offense. Across 21 games in 2019 and 2020, Watkins collected 90 receptions for 1,558 yards and nine touchdown catches. Watkins' blend of size, speed, ball skills, physicality, and route-running prowess makes him an appealing prospect. His ball skills are exceptional and he’s the type of receiver that is open when he’s covered. In addition to having outstanding ball skills, Watkins is excellent after the catch, which makes him an appealing weapon to all parts of the field. Watkins has some technical work to do when it comes to route-running and further developing his release package. Watkins is a wonderful vertical threat that gets to top speed quickly, but does he have that true second gear that will be required to be a big-play threat in the NFL? Wakins has literally no experience on special teams from college, so he has much to prove in that regard and it will be critical if he’s viewed as a WR4 or 5 early in his career. For a team looking to add size, physically, hands, and ball skills to its receiving corps, Watkins is a terrific target.

    Ideal RoleDevelopmental WR3/4.
