PROS: Powerfully built edge defender with a bubble butt that will get Mike Mayock off the couch yelling “praise the lord”. Thunderous punch to set a strong edge. Not kicked out by pullers easily. Holds the point of attack with heavy, violent hands. Knows what to do in unblocked situations. Quick mental processing on fakes and backfield misdirection to find and track the ball.
Strong hands at the top of the arc. Utilizes long arms to keep blockers off his frame. Rarely locked up or in a position where he can’t at least get in pursuit. Fluid enough mover to make stops in space. Bull rush is a factor. Drops his pads and churns his legs through blockers. Accessed inside moves more as the season went on. Strong, reliable tackler.
CONS: Not an explosive athlete off the ball. Won’t threaten the edge with speed or quickness. Doesn’t anticipate the snap particularly well, failing to make tackles uncomfortable out of their stance. Has some shoulder dip to him as a rusher, but not bendy enough to turn tight corners to the pocket through contact.
Hands are weapons, but are utilized a little methodically at times. Can be slow to transition to counters and sometimes his attacks just aren’t quick and deadly enough. Can he be more creative/intricate as a pass rusher? Upside is limited as a rusher due to lacking high-end athletic tools. Speed-to-counter might never be a card for him to play. Range as a run defender is good, not great. Could probably afford to drop 10-15 pounds (some extra weight around the mid-section), might add some explosiveness.
