The Baltimore Ravens closed the curtain on Week 5 in exciting fashion by overcoming a 19-point deficit in an instant classic overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts. Lamar Jackson had a game for the ages. The dual-threat quarterback accounted for an astounding 504 yards of offense. The most impressive part about Jackson’s efforts? He did the majority of the damage with his arm, as opposed to his legs.

The Colts’ defense clearly set out to stop the run and their efforts were largely successful. Jackson was held to just 62 rushing yards, while the ball-carrier pair of Latavius Murray and Ty’Son Williams managed to rush for a combined 23 yards on 10 carries.

Jackson’s ability to respond with his arm made the difference. Jackson completed 37-of-43 passes for a franchise-record 442 yards and four touchdowns. Jackson set several records throughout the victory, none more impressive than being the first quarterback to ever complete 85% (86.1% to be exact) in a 400-yard passing performance. Jackson was especially remarkable in the second half and overtime, throwing for 335 of his 442 passing yards during the final three quarters of the game.

Indianapolis executed their defensive gameplan, but none of that mattered as Jackson put the team on his back while leading his Ravens to their biggest come-from-behind-victory since he became their starting quarterback. It comes just mere weeks after Jackson overturned an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson continues to shine his brightest when the Ravens desperately need him to, and he’s doing it via the passing game.

Monday marked the third consecutive game that a Ravens running back has failed to account for 60 rushing yards. Since Week 3, the Ravens’ ball-carriers have totaled a measly 156 rushing yards and a single touchdown on 49 carries, which averages out to a pathetic 3.1 yards per carry. In those same three contests, Jackson has converted 75-of-111 passing attempts (67.5% completion percentage) for an astonishing 1,045 passing yards and six touchdowns. It represents the best three-game stretch of Jackson’s passing career, and the Ravens are a perfect 3-0 in those games. It’s an incredible turnaround for an offense that previously relied on their ability to operate in a certain manner.

The Ravens are now the sixth-best passing offense in the NFL, averaging 291.8 passing yards per game. It currently represents a stupefying 120-yard improvement per game when compared to last year’s league-low mark of 171 yards per contest.

Ravens fans loudly and proudly chanted, “MVP!” as Jackson exited M&T Bank Stadium. If Jackson continues to put in performances like the one we just witnessed, Baltimore’s faithful may get their wish.
