What Are Hendon Hooker’s 5 Best NFL Team Fits?

One of the country’s most productive quarterbacks in 2022, if it weren’t for a torn ACL in November, we’d be having a MUCH different conversation when it comes to Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker. A dual-threat weapon that is expected to be a full go for rookie minicamp, here are a few of my favorite landing spots for Hendon Hooker

Las Vegas Raiders

I couldn’t care less that Jimmy Garoppolo is in town. A breath of fresh air is needed inside the locker room in Las Vegas, and while Garoppolo could be the guy for 2023, taking Hooker on Day 2, allowing him to fully work back to 100%, and making him the guy moving into 2024 wouldn’t surprise me. Age is often the concern for many when discussing the former Virginia Tech Hokie turned star in Knoxville, but it’s time we stop reaching for what-ifs and focus on who he is as a football player.

Minnesota Vikings

Who knows what the future holds for Kirk Cousins, but the Vikings are littered with young playmakers and just winning the NFC North shouldn’t satisfy general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. A young and talent-hungry evaluator that isn’t shy to make a move, Adofo-Mensah adding Hooker would not just open the eyes of Cousins but would expand the current Minnesota playbook when given the opportunity.

Dallas Cowboys

We all know Jerry Jones likes to make a splash and Hooker offers similar traits to what Dak Prescott did out of Mississippi State nearly a decade ago. This isn’t saying Hooker should replace the Cowboys’ starter since 2016, but competition never hurts. If he starts to slide down boards on day two, would you be shocked if Jones turned in his card?

Seattle Seahawks

Geno Smith is back with a sparkling new deal, but the team has an out if they want it in 2024 if all goes south. Hooker—a signal-caller that can beat teams within the ears only to escape pressure and create off-script—offers a similar game to that of Smith and would be able to step in right away if he falters.

Detroit Lions

A club in a position to win right now, Dan Campbell and Co. have something special brewing in the Motor City. I don’t expect them to take a passer at No. 6 overall, but with four more picks in the top 100—including two in the second round (Nos. 48 and 55 overall)—Hooker could be a nice addition to groom under Jared Goff for a year before giving him the keys to the offense.
