TDN College Football Top 25 Poll: Week 7

JUST when I thought we were going to settle into things after reaching the midway point of the season, Week 7 happened. One week after just 3 teams held their slots from the previous week, only 2 (two!) held serve this week.

For the first time since Week 2, a team other than Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Georgia is ranked in the coveted top-4. With Georgia dropping to LSU, the undefeated Notre Dame Fighting Irish joins our "if the season ended today" College Football Playoffs.

The Ducks of Oregon are the biggest riser in this week's poll, climbing 7 spots and landing in the top-10. Oregon is a fourth quarter collapse that led to an overtime loss to Stanford away from being undefeated. The Ducks travel to Washington State for a big time Pac 12 contest next Saturday.

Clinging to the No. 23 spot but dropping 9 spots, Miami was the biggest faller within the poll this week. The Canes suffered defeat to Virginia on Saturday to give Miami its second loss of the season one week after it barely escaped Florida State. Miami doesn't face a team currently ranked the rest of the regular season and it's resume is very weak. They will need some decisive victories the rest of the way to remain in the poll.

Entering this week's poll is Michigan State, Mississippi State and Washington State. The Spartans knocked off Penn State in an impressive victory but the Bulldogs and Cougars joined the poll after not even playing this week as both were idle.

Dropping out of the poll is San Diego State, Auburn and Colorado. The Aztecs narrowly beat Air Force while the Tigers suffered its third loss of the year and the Buffalo's were knocked from the list of unbeatens.

As a reminder, our poll is the consensus of all members of the TDN staff’s individual rankings averaged out to build a composite poll. A whopping 38 different teams received votes from our staff (listed below).

Our top 25 after Week 7:

Also receiving votes: San Diego State, Auburn, Colorado, Stanford, Ole Miss, USC, Appalachian State, Boston College, Utah, Cincinnati, Boise State, Texas Tech, Fresno State.
