With a shutout win in Death Valley over LSU, the Tide continues to roll and in doing so created another big shift in our poll. With LSU suffering its second defeat of the season, Georgia claimed the No. 4 spot in "if the season ended today” College Football Playoffs. In one of our closest polls of the season, Michigan held top-4 rankings from 3 of our staff members while one voter had Notre Dame at No. 5. Alabama and Clemson continue to be the consensus No. 1 and No. 2.
Speaking of Clemson, the Tigers travel to Boston College on Saturday to face the Eagles who is the biggest riser within the poll from last week. BC improved its record to 7-2 with a win over Virginia Tech and climbed 7 spots along with Fresno State (8-1) and Utah State (8-1).
Things could get interesting again this Saturday with several top-10 teams facing capable opponents. Ohio State travels to Michigan State, West Virginia hosts TCU, Oklahoma hosts Oklahoma State and Georgia hosts Auburn. It's interesting to note that our staff all had a variation of the same teams slotted 1 through 11 but that is destined to change after next weekend.
The biggest fallers within the poll is a tie between Iowa and Utah who both slid 8 spots. The Hawkeyes were Purdues latest victim while the Utes were upset by Arizona State.
Joining our poll this week is NC State, Washington, Auburn and Buffalo while Houston, Texas A&M, Virginia and Penn State are now on the outside looking in.
As a reminder, our poll is the consensus of all members of the TDN staff’s individual rankings averaged out to build a composite poll. 32 different teams received votes from our staff (listed below).
