Look, I know that I was very much one of those people who did not think the Cardinals should be moving on from Josh Rosen -- instead using the No. 1 overall selection on a premium player elsewhere, as their roster was hot garbage last year. HOWEVER, Kyler Murray is very good and if you don't believe in the quarterback you have and you have the chance to not only move on but have your choice of the guys coming up next, do it.
That's what Arizona did.
Beyond Murray, Arizona had a lot of picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, and I believe they used many of them in wise ways. Here's how it all shaped up.
Round 1, Pick 1: Kyler Murray, QB, Oklahoma
Round 2, Pick 33: Byron Murphy, CB, Washington
Round 2, Pick 62: Andy Isabella, WR, UMass
Round 3, Pick 65: Zach Allen, EDGE, Boston College
Round 4, Pick 103: Hakeem Butler, WR, Iowa State
Round 5, Pick 139: Deionte Thompson, S, Alabama
Round 6, Pick 174: Keesean Johnson, WR, Fresno State
Round 6, Pick 179: Lamont Gaillard, iOL, Georgia
Round 7, Pick 248: Joshua Miles, OT, Morgan State
Round 7, Pick 249: Michael Dogbe, EDGE, Temple
Round 7, Pick 254: Caleb Wilson, TE, UCLA
My Cardinals Draft Mulligan: EDGE Zach Allen for EDGE Chase Winovich
All in all there really isn't a lot to complain about with this Cardinals class. They got QB1, CB1, WR2, SAF3 and a bunch of other good players around them.
If I had to change one pick, however, I would swap out the Zach Allen pick. I just don't love Allen's NFL upside. Perhaps he'll prove me wrong, but when I look at Allen's body type, play style and athletic testing, I see a guy who does a handful of things well but nothing that really stands out in a difference making way -- none of his traits or tools are overwhelming on a consistent basis.
Because of this, I'd trade him out with Chase Winovich. Winovich is a bit more slippery, can rush with speed better and has a better eye for gap penetration. Allen will be fine for the Cardinals, I think, but I don't think he was their best choice there, whether at the EDGE position or elsewhere.
