3 Potential CFP Prospect Match-Ups To Hope For

We are entering crunch time, people. November is right around the corner, with it comes another year of debating the College Football Playoff. Mercifully, the rankings don't debut until October 30th this season. But with an eye towards the future, it's always valuable for pro evaluation to have college football's heavyweight programs butting heads in December and January. So who are some of the potential CFP prospect match-ups to hope for in 2018?

Here are three potential one on one prospect showdowns that we should hope for.

Alabama LB Mack Wilson vs. Michigan RB Karan Higdon

The Michigan Wolverines are firing on all cylinders right now and that's in large part due to Karan Higdon. The senior back has flourished as the Michigan bell-cow back and is currently playing some of the best ball of any 2019 Draft eligible back in the country.

We'd find out just how for real Higdon is against the Tide. Never mind the bullies Alabama boasts on the interior defensive line...they get enough press. Mack Wilson roaming the middle of the field hunting Higdon as a potential match-up capable of making blue collar football fans swoon.

The collisions in the hole. The cat and mouse games working into the sideline. This could be a lot of fun. Plus the added appeal of two storied programs like Alabama and Michigan butting heads? We'd be spoiled to get this prospect showdown.

LSU CB Greedy Williams vs. Texas WRs Collin Johnson and Lil'Jordan Humphrey

Greedy has had himself a strong year this season but the likelihood of seeing this showdown will ride on how Williams and company fare against the Crimson Tide, who are next on the schedule.

A potential match-up against Texas would be interesting, as Collin Johnson and Lil'Jordan Humphrey bring a size element to a one on one match-up with Greedy that would warrant a lot of attention from NFL scouts. Just how good is Greedy? He's get tested with a little bit of everything in this hypothetical.

Johnson and Humphrey have come on after a slow start (heck, the whole team started slow vs. Maryland). Their stat lines are damn near identical, even if they bring different flavors to the position. Johnson is a straight up bully at the catch point, Humphrey is a more electric run after catch threat.

The Longhorns could test Williams in a lot of different ways in 60 minutes.

Clemson DE Clelin Ferrell vs. Alabama LT Jonah Williams

Again! We demand to see it again! The two just can't seem to get away from each other, as they've faced off in the last two editions of the College Football Playoff as well. This is a showdown of first round prospects, with each having top-15 overall potential.

Who cares if we've already seen this one. All great blockbusters end up being trilogies (except for Transformers...thanks a lot, Michael Bay). Let's make this one a three-peat, please?

Ferrell is well on his way to another year filled with accolades. He's filling up the stat sheet and he's as polished as ever in his ability to handle blockers with his hands. Williams, meanwhile, is the consensus top OL prospect in a class that has very little top talent.

2020 Bonus Request: Georgia QB Jake Fromm vs. Ohio State DE Chase Young

Why in the hell is this thing only four teams?!?! As I sat down and worked through potential match-ups, I got cross-eyed trying to cut my list to three.

There's something about an elite pass rusher chasing around a pro quarterback prospect that I can't help but enjoy. Make no mistake about Mr. Young: he's an elite pass rusher already. Young is super explosive and seeing him harass a promising young passer in Fromm would be well worth the price of admission.

How does Fromm handle the heat? Can he pick up on where Young is coming from an neutralize his angles?

The bad news? We probably won't get more than one of these individual match-ups in this year's CFP. The good news? The rest of the bowl game slate may give them to us as consolation prizes.
