Elijah Sarratt Scouting Report

Elijah Sarratt provides plus-level route running with exceptional contested catch ability to be an impactful receiver.

Draft Grade: Round 2 - Winning Starter

Strengths:

Catch in Traffic: Sarratt shows excellent concentration when catching the football in congested areas. Throughout his career, he has consistently shown a willingness to work across the middle of the field and secure passes even when a big collision is imminent. Sarratt has strong, reliable hands and the mental toughness to profile as a true possession receiver at the NFL level, capable of making tough catches in critical situations.

Route Running: Sarratt is a high-IQ route runner. Against zone coverage, he demonstrates a strong understanding of how to find and settle into vacant areas of the defense, making himself an easy target for the quarterback. Versus man coverage, Sarratt shows good start-stop ability to create separation at the top of routes, along with the flexibility to sink his hips and efficiently change direction coming in and out of breaks.

Ball Tracking/Catch Radius: Sarratt has consistently shown strong ball-tracking ability throughout his career. Whether it is timing back-shoulder throws or tracking the ball over his shoulder down the field, he displays natural instincts as a pass catcher. His ability to extend his hands away from his frame gives him a wide catch radius, and his strong hands allow him to pluck the ball cleanly out of the air and finish the catch.

Concerns:

Top-End Speed: Sarratt appears to lack true top-end speed to consistently separate vertically from defensive backs. On downfield routes, he often struggles to create clear separation, and most of his explosive plays come either through savvy route running against zone coverage or by winning contested catches versus man coverage with defenders in close proximity.

Alignment-Specific: Due to his lack of vertical speed, Sarratt may be alignment-specific within certain offensive schemes. His role will likely need to be defined, as he projects best in systems that emphasize route precision, timing, and contested-catch situations rather than asking him to consistently threaten defenses as a vertical field-stretcher.
