Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby has announced his intention to enter the transfer portal. The redshirt junior signal-caller should immediately command attention from programs looking for an experienced quarterback to potentially help them make a deep postseason run next season. Sorsby was incredibly productive for the Bearcats.
The Denton, Texas native originally transferred to Cincinnati after playing two years at Indiana. Sorsby has been the Bearcats’ starter each of the past two seasons, developing into one of college football's elite quarterbacks in 2025. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder completed 62% of his passing attempts this past campaign while throwing for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns, and just five interceptions.
Sorsby is about to be a sought-after quarterback once he officially hits the portal. He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining at his next destination. We've identified three potential landing spots for Sorsby via the portal.
Indiana
Could Sorsby return to the program he once left to help develop his career? Stranger things have happened. Sorsby transferred away from Indiana after the program fired Tom Allen. Curt Cignetti came in as his replacement and has led the Hoosiers to their most successful two-year run in program history.
The Hoosiers will enter the College Football Playoff as the No. 1 seed as the undefeated 13-0 Big Ten champions. Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza is well-positioned to be the top overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. Cignetti will probably prefer an experienced quarterback to keep this competitive window alive. Sorsby should strongly consider returning to Indiana.
Penn State
Penn State's search for its next head coach following the in-season dismissal of James Franklin was a wonky one. Ultimately, a bad process concluded with the best-case scenario result. Prying Matt Campbell away from Iowa State represents a fantastic hire for the Nittany Lions. Campbell will likely prefer to land a veteran quarterback in the portal to lead his first Penn State team.
Drew Allar is preparing for the 2026 NFL Draft after suffering a season-ending injury. The Nittany Lions have three scholarship quarterbacks on the roster eligible to return, but none of them are considered locks. Campbell will almost certainly turn to the portal. Rocco Becht, his QB at Iowa State, is an alternative option, but he recently underwent surgery. Sorsby would be a home-run addition.
Texas Tech
Texas Tech has a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff as the fourth seed. Senior quarterback Behren Morton is concluding his career with the Red Raiders. A veteran replacement will be needed if Texas Tech hopes to repeat this season's success in 2026.
The program is currently thriving in its preparations for next season. Four-star tight end Matt Ludwig is joining after de-committing from Michigan. Five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo received a lucrative NIL deal to sign with the Red Raiders as well. They are building something special on offense, but still need a successor for Morton at quarterback to help complete the 2026 offense. Sorsby could be lured to Lubbock, given all the noise the program is making right now.
