Florida State defensive tackle Joshua Farmer is among the most dominant prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. A well-built defender at 6-foot-3 and 305 pounds with 35-inch arms, Farmer played his best football this past campaign, totaling eight tackles for loss and four sacks. The Seminoles standout is an intentional player who thrives when focusing on the small details.
Farmer recently spoke exclusively with The Draft Network. Farmer discussed his performance at the NFL Combine, using his length to impact the game as a pass rusher and run stopper, which teams he’s scheduled to visit, taking inspiration from Jared Verse and Braden Fiske, and more.
JM: I thought you took a step forward in 2024. You had a career-high eight tackles for loss and matched a previous best in sacks with four. I thought you looked more polished as a player. What changed for you?
Joshua Farmer: I just honed in on the little things. I became very intentional with the finer details. That’s what helped separate me this past season and make me a better overall player.
JM: You carried that momentum over to the NFL Combine. You put up 26 reps on the bench. I thought it was a great workout for a 6-foot-3, 305-pound d-tackle. Did you get good feedback on the performance?
Joshua Farmer: Yeah, I got great feedback. I was very satisfied with the performance. I’m expecting to go pretty high in the draft. A lot of teams really love me. I’m just continuing to trust the process.
JM: Between the Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, you’ve checked a lot of boxes. What do you think you've proven to scouts throughout this process?
Joshua Farmer: I’ve proven that I’m a fantastic athlete who can play every position on the defensive line. Across the board, from five-tech to the zero, I can play it all. I’m flexible enough to play in any scheme. I have super long arms. I’m big enough to thrive. I’m fast and strong enough to play anywhere.
JM: I love the confidence. I’m excited to talk about your pass-rush arsenal. I know you've been working to improve that. You’re so polished. Talk to me about your go-to moves and counters.
Joshua Farmer: I feel like I really improved this past season. My arsenal is predicated on power. We didn’t have a lot of speed rushes at Florida State. We wanted to build everything around power. We were a power-based defense. I went with the shock-and-shed pretty frequently. It just depends. I can rush the passer all day long. Whatever the offensive lineman gives me, I can react off of that.
JM: You also have 35-inch arms. You briefly touched on that earlier. How do you use that length to your advantage?
Joshua Farmer: It helps me keep offensive linemen away from my frame. I have powerful hands as well. I can use my length and my hands to knock them back with a heavy jolt. I’m able to snatch them and get past them. Length helps a lot both as a pass rusher and run stopper. My arms are usually longer than my opponent's.
JM: Do you feel like you're a three-down lineman at the next level? Can you play an early-down role in the run game?
Joshua Farmer: Absolutely. I take a lot of pride in stopping the run, a lot of pride. A lot of guys don’t do that. I love being an old school defensive tackle. When I get the dirty work done by stopping the run, it affords us opportunities to rush the passer.
JM: Have you met with any teams throughout this process, or have any team visits or workouts coming up?
Joshua Farmer: I’ve been at the airport constantly (laughs). I’ve done a bunch of visits and I have a lot more coming up. I have visits with the Texans, Patriots, Giants, and Steelers, to name a few of them. Those are in-person visits, and I have more of them coming.
JM: There’s a lot of interest in you and it’s easy to see why. You've had to overcome a lot of personal tragedy in your life. Both of your parents unfortunately passed away far too young. How did you find inspiration to overcome?
Joshua Farmer: My family got me through it. My brothers and my sisters are wonderful people. They’re much older than me and they’re very strong-minded individuals. They helped me a ton. I’m just blessed to be here. I kept God first, kept my head down and went to work. It’s simple when you keep God first and do the right thing. If you do right by people, everything else will take care of itself.
JM: What an incredible mindset and approach to life you have. We've appreciated your time today. This conversation has highlighted why Joshua Farmer is an elite prospect in this draft. What kinda impact are you going to make at the next level?
Joshua Farmer: I’m going to make a big impact. I want to make a big splash. I was just talking with Braden Fiske and Jared Verse about that the other day. We’re talking about the Rookie of the Year and the runner-up.
We’ve been talking these last couple of days and they told me to stay focused and intentional with the little details. Those are the things that separate you at the next level. Everybody in the NFL is talented, big, fast, and strong. You have to separate yourself by doing the little things.
I got that from Braden Fiske and Jared Verse. I’m going to apply that at the next level.
