Film Analysis:
Konata Mumpfield is an explosive route-runner who has remained a bright spot in the Pitt offense. Route-running is excellent, as he consistently creates separation with sharp cuts, disciplined footwork, and a strong understanding of defensive leverage and tendencies. Demonstrates natural hands, rarely allowing the ball into his body, and consistently secures passes in traffic. However, he does have moments where focus lacks and the ball will hit the turf (five drops in 2024).
Mumpfield is a three-level threat that tracks the ball well downfield and is a player who is natural in making adjustments mid-air. Mumpfield has also showcased an advanced feel for finding soft spots in zone coverage and adjusting his routes accordingly to present throwing windows. He does need to work on minimizing wasted movement off the line against man, as his east-west shimmy and shakes are often met with powerful jabs to his chest against more experienced corners (Clemson). While he is quick and agile in short areas, he doesn’t possess the burst to consistently separate from defenders downfield and lacks the top-end speed that would make him a true deep threat. While he can make defenders miss with his footwork, he isn’t a dynamic YAC threat at this point in his evaluation who will consistently break tackles or outrun defenders in space.
Overall, Mumpfield profiles as a crafty and savvy contributor on the perimeter who can contribute in a system that allows his creativity to blossom. His ability to get open, secure the football, and win with technique rather than elite athletic traits makes him a solid depth option for an NFL roster. And while his physical limitations may cap his upside, his skill set translates well to a role as a complementary receiver that has the makeup to holster a heavier workload should he continue to progress.
