The 2025 Senior Bowl will provide an opportunity for NFL draft prospects to prove themselves on the largest pre-draft stage. LSU EDGE Sai’vion Jones plans on taking full advantage. Jones recently spoke exclusively with the Senior Bowl and Draft Network to discuss his motivation for accepting his invitation to compete in Mobile, Alabama.
Jones also discussed what he's striving to prove to NFL general managers and scouts in attendance at the Senior Bowl, his pass-rush arsenal, how he’d write his own scouting report, and more. Let's get to know Jones better ahead of his journey to the Senior Bowl.
JM: Where were you when you found out about your Senior Bowl invite and what was your initial reaction?
Sai’vion Jones: I was in the defensive meeting room at LSU with our position coach. The defensive coordinator was there. The way he brought up [my invite] was funny, but shocking at the same time. He asked me if I got in trouble recently (laughs). A box arrived for you. He was joking around with me.
He told me it was the Reese’s Senior Bowl invite and we all celebrated.
JM: That sounds like a fun moment (laughs). What motivated you to accept the Senior Bowl’s offer?
Sai’vion Jones: I feel like every year, the Senior Bowl has fierce competition. Whoever comes out on top at the Senior Bowl, those are the prospects who end up getting drafted highly.
JM: What are you hoping to prove to NFL general managers, coaching staffs, and scouts in attendance in Mobile?
Sai’vion Jones: I want to prove that Sai’vion Jones is just as good as any other pass rusher in the 2025 NFL Draft.
JM: How would Sai’vion Jones write his own scouting report? Self-scout your traits and abilities for us.
Sai’vion Jones: I’m a lanky defender. I’m extremely athletic for my size. I’m still developing my pass-rush plan. That’s what I need to improve on. I’m working on my mobility to bend around the corner better as well.
JM: Touching on that, how would you describe your current pass-rush arsenal? What are your go-to moves and counters?
Sai’vion Jones: I would say my go-to move is converting speed to power. I like countering with the cross chop.
JM: Do you feel like you’re a three-down lineman at the next level? Can you stop the run on early downs?
Sai’vion Jones: Oh yeah, I’m definitely a three-down player. I feel like that’s my strong suit actually. I’m more developed as a run-stopper right now. I can definitely stop the run.
JM: You’re such an effective defender. Would you compare yourself to any rushers in the league? Anyone you enjoy studying and learning from?
Sai’vion Jones: I wouldn’t say I compare myself to anybody. There are a lot of people I look up to though. I like a lot of edge rushers. I respect the work somebody like Von Miller puts in. Aaron Donald was dominant inside. Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns. I look up to those guys.
I appreciate the amount of hard work and sacrifice those guys had to put in to achieve their level of success.
JM: Those are great rushers to learn from. The jersey swap is a big deal at the next level, Sai’vion. Anyone you’re looking forward to adding to your collection?
Sai’vion Jones: I’m looking forward to swapping jerseys with all of my former teammates at LSU. I know it’s going to be a lot of fun, especially with the guys that left during my freshman year. Being able to see them four, five years into their career, that’s gonna be special.
Micah Baskerville comes to mind. Brian Thomas Jr., Jayden Daniels. I can’t wait to see those guys again.
JM: We’ve appreciated your time. At the end of the week, what does a successful Senior Bowl look like for Sai’vion Jones?
Sai’vion Jones: It means I went out there and made a name for myself. I’ll know I had a successful week at the Senior Bowl after I leave and everybody is talking about Sai’vion Jones.
