Film Analysis:
Tommi Hill became a four-star recruit playing wide receiver and cornerback for Edgewater High School in Orlando. He started playing more at cornerback in his junior season. He went on to intercept four passes with eight passes defensed in his senior season on his way to winning a State Championship. He initially committed to Arizona State and saw action in 11 games as a freshman, but he transferred to Nebraska for his last three collegiate seasons.
Hill played receiver and corner in his inaugural season with Nebraska but made the change to corner permanent during his junior year. He broke out as a true junior, racking up four interceptions and nine passes defensed while only starting seven games for Nebraska. He was on his way to an even better season as a full-time corner this year, but he had to fight through a foot injury most of the year.
Hill is a fluid mover with a smooth backpedal and keeps his eyes active while tracking a receiver’s movements in man coverage. He tends to open his hips to declare and run deep early but has the hip fluidity to turn and run quickly. He uses various techniques, including hard and soft press, catch, and bail, while aligning differently for what coverage is asked of him. He’s a versatile corner with high instincts in man or zone coverage, and his ability to identify route concepts makes it easy for him to pass off through a play and stay on top of his responsibilities. Through the stem, Hill can maintain distance and read body language, which gives him a leg up on the receiver when he stays square.
Hill’a length allows him to get his hands on passes at the catch point with proper timing or even as a reactionary movement. He’s physical with a touch of grabbing here and there to keep him in phase with receivers or recover from opening his hips prematurely. He reacts to quick throws, shows off quick click-and-close to get downhill against screens and throws to the flat. When he times it right, those turn into interceptions with good ball skills. He feels comfortable in off-coverage and doesn’t look like a fish out of water when receivers pick plays or crossing routes where roles can change. Hill has good eye discipline, which could help him play a versatile role at safety if asked.
His injury in 2024 forced him to play tentatively, and he didn’t activate against the run or downhill as quickly as he did in 2023, but the tools are there. His deep and recovery speed also took a hit, but early in the season, he was flying around making plays against Colorado. Although he took a step back due to injury, Hill is an NFL corner, from body type to football IQ, and he possesses the tools to get even better in the NFL.
