Marshall’s Mike Green A Name To Know In 2025 NFL Draft Class

Looking for a small-school darling to brag to your friends about this winter? Look no further than Marshall’s Mike Green.

A dynamic, fluid, twitched-up pass rusher that has dominated pre-draft conversations this fall, there may not be a more fundamentally talented five-tech in the country than the 6-foot-4 Green. A redshirt sophomore from Williamsburg, Virginia, Green has dominated Sun Belt conference play since he arrived on campus to the tune of 76 pressures, 46 hurries, and 17 sacks. He’s consistently demanded double teams and dominated opposing tackles when left in isolated matchups.

It hasn’t mattered who he aligns opposite of or how many bodies are in his way, Green’s knack for wreaking havoc on the quarterback is expected to be highly sought after come April’s NFL draft, should he indeed declare.

Whether it’s winning as an athlete to the outside shoulder with excellent explosiveness or sticking his foot in the ground and jumping to the inside, Green’s hands and pass-rush repertoire also showcase a platform for success against the highest level of tackles in the sport. Sure, NFL executives would like to see him play against major Power Four competition each week, but there is always something to be said about lower-level prospects that dominate the competition, and Green has consistently passed the eye test.

So far in 2024, Green has only continued to get better and better and bet… you get the point. More snaps mean more looks at varying fronts and how teams have looked to counter him, yet the ability for Green to slither and push his way into the QB’s lap has been a joy to study on tape this year. Whether it was his sack (see above) against Ohio State, his nine-pressure outing in Week 2 at Virginia Tech, or his three-sack performance against Appalachian State a month ago, every time you flip on the Thundering Herd, it doesn’t take long for No. 15 to pop on the All-22.

Every team in football needs pass rushers. It doesn’t matter if you have a core rotation already in place or start a menacing tandem on either side of the line of scrimmage. Every. Team. Always. Needs. Pass Rushers. Yes, each depth chart is different which adjusts how each front office allocates capital to the position, but the ability to rush the passer is paramount in today’s NFL, and defenders like Green, who blend athleticism and technicality, simply won’t last long on draft boards.

There’s a long list of names to know in the edge class for 2025, but as the pre-draft process kicks into high gear and showcases begin to send out invitations, keep a keen eye on Green as a name to become familiar with.
