Film Analysis:
Myles Hinton started his career at Stanford, where he played 23 games and started 16 at right tackle. The hulking 6-foot-6, 340-pound tackle then transferred to Michigan and started five total games, four at right tackle and one at left tackle. He enters the 2024 season slated as the starting left tackle. Hinton has consistently flashed potential and upside with his power and size, and he’ll get the opportunity to prove it once again in his final season at Michigan.
When he's on time, his first step is quick and explosive, and Hinton uses the momentum to generate power in his hands to dislodge defenders in the run game. He plays with a good pad level for a 6-foot-6 lineman and gets vertical and lateral displacement as a scheme-versatile tackle. He’s always looking to finish blocks and rack up pancakes. As a pass protector, Hinton does an excellent job of picking up stunts and not missing blocking assignments with a high football IQ. His short-area footwork allows him to move laterally with rushers and keep them in front when he's connected. He can absorb power well and shows pop in his hands to give it back.
Hinton didn’t play against the best defensive lines in his starts; he’ll have the opportunity to play up to that level in 2024. Improving his core strength regarding torque and turning defenders in the run game will give running backs an easier time finding rushing lanes off his backside. He will throw two hands at pass rushers too often, which leads to lunges and being defeated by quick hands and counters. Defending the arc will be the essential improvement for his game going forward. While he has a good drop step, his feet get short and choppy, allowing rushers to gain the edge quickly.
Overall, Hinton has a high floor as a starter, a high football IQ, and the power to be a run blocker. If unlocked, his pass protection has untapped potential that can take him to the next level as an NFL tackle.
