Film Analysis:

Emeka Egbuka's career at Ohio State will be remembered as that of a consistently productive receiver who was reliable in any moment and capable of playing any alignment within the offense. During his career, Egbuka served as a movement piece in Ryan Day’s Ohio State offense. He impacted the game with football IQ, savvy route-running, and run-after-catch ability. Egbuka defeats both man and zone coverage by playing at his own pace and tempo. He possesses an NFL-ready game and skill set that should translate directly to the next level.

Egbuka wins quickly in and out of his breaks in man coverage. He has sharp plant steps at the breakpoint to generate separation and can break inside or outside with little wasted movement. Egbuka works the middle of the field effectively and efficiently as a reliable target for his QB. He runs the horizontal plane and route tree well—shallow crossers, deep overs, and dig routes. Egbuka understands leveraging and how to attack the DB’s leverage point. He sets defenders up with stutter steps, hesitations, and head fakes before snapping off his routes. He is a quick-game specialist and will thrive as a chain-moving threat, getting to his spot with quickness and efficiency in a timing-based passing offense.

Egbuka also finds success against zone coverage. His football IQ is on display as he reads the drop of defenders and locates the vulnerable angles. He is a strong seam/slot threat, attacking the vertical plane. He is confident making tough grabs in traffic while bracing for the incoming hit. Egbuka also offers a solid run-after-catch profile. His contact balance is good, and he knows how to evade and force missed tackles in space.

Explosiveness and deep speed are areas of concern for Egbuka. He is quicker than fast and has not shown, on film, the ability to consistently separate vertically from defensive backs. Because of this, it appears that Egbuka's most clear role to be effective is working the short and intermediate portions of the field in an NFL offense.

Egbuka is a productive, highly intelligent, and skilled run-after-catch WR prospect. He projects as a movement Z or slot receiver who will be very successful when aligned in the slot with a two-way go. His work in the quick game and the middle of the field translates to being a tough, chain-moving threat.
