Film Analysis:

Shavon Revel Jr. enters the draft as one of the premier Group of Five prospects in the class following a 2024 campaign that ended before it ever really began, suffering a torn ACL in September. He is expected to be available for rookie minicamp and OTAs next spring. Revel is a long and athletic defensive weapon that has the skill set to impact a game in multiple phases. The former JUCO transfer (Louisburg College) has evolved into a high-level playmaker with a unique blend of fluidity and explosiveness at his size.

In coverage, Revel uses his length extremely well to disrupt timing at a variety of depths. He’s patient in his backpedal and is constantly playing on his toes. Rarely out of position and is quick to accelerate into throwing windows. Fluid when asked to flip and run to carry vertical routes. Fights through the hands of wideouts well and has the playmaking ability to take it the other way—his 12 PBUs in 2023 ranked top 10 among all FBS corners. Explosive off the ground in contested catch situations, as well. Want to see more work in press-man where Revel can truly evolve into a shutdown type of corner.

As a run defender, Revel is a nightmare to block in the fringe areas. Has experience attacking from inside the box, highlighting the versatility at his size. Arrives at contact with intelligent violence where he can blow ball-carriers off their feet with technically sound tackles below the waist. Revel works to top speed quickly and pursues with a hunger for contact, but he rarely overpursues or has to retrace his steps. Can overwhelm less experienced blockers on the outside. Aligned inside the box, Revel showcases excellent lateral agility to shuffle down the line of scrimmage, only to quickly trigger downhill through vacant alleys. Size and tackling ability showcase an extremely intriguing defensive chess piece.

Concerns remain about his patience when working with his back to the quarterback. Can get handsy at times and into the frame of wideouts instead of turning to locate the football. Increased comfortability will come with more snaps. Would also like to see more utilization of different striking and technique in press-man situations. Mixing up looks will further expand his profile as an outside stalwart and will assist against more nuanced and quicker pass catchers that can then outrun Revel in man situations.

Overall, Revel’s size, length, competitiveness, and instincts showcase a versatile playmaker. Medicals during the pre-draft process will remain paramount for teams when it comes to finalizing Revel’s evaluation, and potential impact.
