Film Analysis:
Ozzy Trapilo is a large and long offensive lineman with the versatility to provide depth along an offensive line. Operated primarily in a gap scheme, although he has shown the ability to get out in space on occasion. He’s extremely well-coached at the NFL offensive line pipeline that is Boston College.
As a run blocker, Trapilo lives best on a vertical plane where he can launch his frame into the bodies of opponents. Showcases active feet at the snap to work to and through opponents. Quick hands to establish leverage with excellent grip strength to stay neutral. Not an overpowering man mover but has an intriguing strength/length profile that projects well down the road. He was a part of an offensive line unit that paved the way for 198.8 rushing yards per game in 2023 (13th in the nation).
In pass pro, Trapilo is a massive man to work around (0 sacks allowed in 2023). Not a dynamic mover by any means, but does a nice job of keeping square to rushers. Will rarely be jolted back by opponents, and has shown the ability to stymie rushers from full speed at depth. Clean technique for the most part but has run into issues against pass rushers with lateral movement. Powerful anchor when his cleats are screwed into the dirt. Does a nice job of walking his hips to the opponent, ending the rep quickly.
Concerns remain about Trapilo’s overall athleticism and movement skills. Versatility is apparent but finding his niche at the next level will remain important for teams in finalizing his evaluation. Large and powerful right tackle but does not overpower defenders. Also spends a little too much time on the ground on film when attempting to reach second-level defenders or when maneuvering around the line of scrimmage.
While Trapilo showcases rapid foot movement to work vertically, his momentum does not carry through defenders, often stalemating at contact. Athleticism remains limited at this point in his evaluation when asked to pull. Lumbering mover around the edge that will play over his toes. Also has a tough time redirecting in space to work in front of downhill defenders. Trapilo will also turn his shoulders (facing the sideline) to face rushers instead of remaining technically sound in his kick step. By doing so, he vacates the integrity of the pass set and will begin to shuffle his feet, instead of working into his second kick step and anchoring.
Overall, increasing his flexibility in his lower half and fine-tuning his ability as a run blocker showcases a versatile prospect with a highly intriguing size/length profile. Will not fit in schemes that prioritize linemen in space, but Trapilo’s anchor in pass pro along with his understanding of leverage in the run game showcases a floor to compete for snaps moving forward.
