Film Analysis:
Renardo Green is a senior defensive back who enters the 2024 draft as one of the fastest-rising draft prospects in the 2024 class. Throughout his career, Green has consistently improved his play and productivity on the field, resulting in him having his best year during the 2023 season—43 tackles, 1 interception, 12 passes defensed, and a sack. That showcased his versatility as a player and productivity both against the pass and the run.
In coverage, Green is versatile in that he can play press-man or off-coverage and be an effective and productive player. In press-man, Green shows to have the lateral quickness to mirror and match receivers and stay in their hip pocket. Green has the fluid hips to get in and out of breaks and stay in phase with receivers to undercut routes and make a play on the football. On deeper routes, Green has the foot speed to carry receivers vertically and make a play on the football.
In off-coverage zone, Green shows to be a high-instinct player who’s able to understand route combinations to bait quarterbacks and make plays on the football. Green has a great plant and drive in off-coverage to drive downhill toward the receiver and can put himself in a position to make a play on the ball and be disruptive.
Green’s versatility is showcased in how he was able to play both on the outside but also align the nickel when needed. Green can also be utilized as an effective blitzer and be disruptive.
The areas of concern for Green are over-aggressiveness and inconsistency in press-man situations. Green consistently puts himself in position to make a play on the football with his tight coverage and active hands to disrupt receivers. But in the NFL, this may become an issue and Green be called for holding/pass interference penalties. Green is going to have to clean up his willingness to use his hands and dial back the aggressive hand usage. The inconsistency in press-man is a matter of patience. Green appears to be eager to get hands on receivers, but at times,, receivers can make him false step and disrupt his punch timing.
